GROUP CLASSES MISSION: With silliness, sincerity, and a great deal of YES AND I seek to create classroom cultures that champion student voice and promote creative risk. In classes of 1, 4, 25 or 100 students, ages 3 through adults, we work on being truthful with ourselves, playful with our work, and open to others. In community and risk-sharing our encounters with the art form of theater become transformative.
PRIVATE LESSONS MISSION: Uncovering self inservice of the art. I seek to facilitate artists in bringing out their personal stories resulting in a raw, authentic, aliveness in their interpretations of text (songs, monologues, sides). I coach in my home studio in upper Manhattan or at TPS in Seattle. Contact me for information.

REFLECTIONS FROM MY STUDENTS:
"Chelsea was the first acting coach that made me realize how real acting can be, and how I can actually feel the emotions and not just pretend." -16 year old Institute
"Chelsea LeValley automatically puts me at ease with her kind demeanor, and still has the energy to make me feel like anything is possible." -10th grader at VT Kidstage
"Chelsea makes me and everyone feel like we are important. Like we teenagers are valuable in this world; not many adults give me and other teens that undivided attention." -20 year old, Institute
"You're one of those teachers that people tell their kids about when they're 40. You have created a community for all of us where we feel free to be ourselves and have fun doing what we love and I know that it has helped me become more confident as a performer and as an adult...you and your class are a turning point in my life."- Cornish college student
"Thank you for making it not just reading words off a page but feeling every word every line to forget what you are saying and be in the moment and feeling everything...thank you for working with me even if the things you were teaching did not seem natural. For helming me push past frustration of not getting new techniques and trying different ways to explain it till we got it."- University of Washington student

BIO: A graduate of the Seattle Children's Theater Apprenticeship Program, an alumni of both the Washington State Teaching Artist Training Lab and the Missoula Children's Theater TAD actor-director touring company I've taught/stage directed ages 3-24 around the country, but most specifically in the Pacific Northwest. I've been fortunate to learn from being a teaching artist at most theater companies in the greater Seattle area and also as a freelancer with schools and high end tech companies. As a play-write, deviser, and director she has a focus on creating new works with students and I am producing two new musicals this summer as a part of my work developing and implementing theater arts programming for a philanthropic, research-education company called foundry10. I've presented programs and research at international conferences on education in NYC, Vancouver, and Seattle.

Pre-K and K-2: Exploratory acting. These classes are geared towards play and imagination. Story Drama and Creative Drama-based pedagogy. Grades 3-5: Lots of play-creation, musicals staging/dance, and dramatic storytelling exercises using our bodies and imaginations with an emphasis on team-building and idea collaboration. Grades 6-8: We do a lot of work with self-discovery through the arts and the building of a community where taking risks is safe, expected, and where 'failing' is to be celebrated. Improvisation, play-creation, audition techniques, Augusto Boal techniques, character development and monologue work. Grades 9-12: Professional Actor training- students develop skills using acting techniques such as Meisner, Stanislavski, Chekhov, and Uta Hagen. We build community, devise plays/musicals, write musicals/plays and see them through to staged readings. Audition techniques, scene study, monologues, acting through song, and coaching. For a more introductory classes, we build ensemble and space for creative collaboration and risk as well as introduce basic acting techniques and build a foundation for continued interest. College Students: I have taught Workshops and Master Classes on Acting through Song, Acting Techniques, the Business of Theater and A How to on staying a working artist.
